Philadelphia Orthopaedic Surgeon to Serve Leading Foot and Ankle Society

Rosemont, Ill. (October 11, 2024) – Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, Casey J. Humbyrd, MD, MBE, has been named treasurer of the Board of Directors for the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), the leading organization for lower extremity medicine and foot and ankle surgery.
"The AOFAS has been my professional home since my foot and ankle fellowship," Dr. Humbyrd said. "As treasurer, I want to help build on AOFAS's legacy, welcoming in the next generation of foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons."
Currently, Dr. Humbyrd serves as chief of the Foot and Ankle Division and the founder of the Program in Surgical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is also an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UPenn.
After earning her medical degree at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, Dr. Humbyrd completed her residency at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and her orthopaedic foot and ankle fellowship at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.
For more than a decade, Dr. Humbyrd has been an active member of and contributor to the Society. She has served as a member-at-large on the AOFAS Board of Directors; alternate delegate to the American Medical Association House of Delegates; chair of the Health Policy Committee, Committee on Outside Interests, and Women's Leadership Task Force; and program co-chair for the 2022 AOFAS Winter Meeting and Annual Meeting. In 2023, Dr. Humbyrd received the Women's Leadership Career Development Award from the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation.
