Our Fellowship program offers a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of ones sub specialty interest in foot and ankle orthopedics, as well as enjoy and explore a unique part of the country. Our Fellows will be exposed to high volume private practice
orthopedic surgery. We also have affiliation with the University of Arizona in Phoenix, which will include even more experience with sports injuries and trauma. The Fellows will develop the ability to ply the principles of foot and ankle care to complicated
cases where there is little to read about. They will also learn from significant experience in academic and private principles of orthopedics. Fellows will participate in monthly journal club meeting with local orthopedic surgeon foot and ankle specialists,
as well as residents from the community. Our main focus is to be sure the Fellow is ultimately proficient in decision making with complex foot and ankle problems and be able to apply evidence based materials to the application. We would expect the
Fellow to begin work on one research project and assist with completing other projects during the year.

Training that is at the forefront of the care of the foot and ankle is the goal of the Foot and Ankle fellowship program at HSS. To fulfill this goal, a broad-based and very active clinical program is available. Training includes adult reconstructive
surgery, sports-related injuries, pediatric foot and ankle surgery, and trauma. Our fellows actively participate in the care of local professional sports teams such as the New York Red Bulls Major League Soccer Team and the Brooklyn Nets NBA team.
Comprised of eleven full-time orthopedic surgeons, the Foot and Ankle Service at HSS is the largest of its kind in the United States. The service follows a multidisciplinary approach to expertly treat the broad range of foot and ankle conditions that
can occur at any stage of life, from non-operative conditions to the most complex trauma and deformities. We perform more than 2,000 surgeries each year, and are committed to an active basic and clinical research program that seeks to improve techniques
for treating the often challenging disorders of the foot and ankle.
The fellowship is divided into three four-month rotations. During each rotation, the fellow is assigned to two or three primary attendings with whom they spend dedicated time in the operating room and the outpatient clinic. Fellows have the opportunity
to follow patients from outpatient clinic visits through to surgery, which provides a valuable mentoring experience over the course of the rotation.
The Foot and Ankle Service is extremely active, with multiple opportunities for surgical experience. Fellows will participate in operative and non-operative aspects of all adult foot and ankle care at the main hospital and at the HSS ASC of Manhattan.
Fellows will be in the operating room full-time at least two days per week. In addition, regularly scheduled sessions in the Bioskills Education Laboratory will give fellows additional opportunities for hands-on training.
During the course of the year, each fellow is expected to complete two research projects by the end of the academic year. These projects may be presented as a podium presentation at the institutional level and/or at national conferences. Fellows are expected
to write two manuscripts of the scientific research projects suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

The UTHealth Houston | McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Foot and Ankle Fellowship program has been training exceptional orthopaedic surgeons for over twenty-five years in the Texas Medical Center and
foot and ankle fellowship trained upwards of 65 fellows. This program provides sufficiently advanced education to allow Fellows to acquire special expertise in foot and ankle orthopaedics and meets the AOFAS recommended foot and ankle curriculum.
The education consists of academic and technical components. The academic component emphasizes a scholarly approach to clinical problem solving, self-directed study, teaching, development of analytic skills and surgical judgment, and research. The
technical components ensure the ability of the Fellows to perform skillfully the procedures required for the practice of foot and ankle orthopaedics as outlined in the AOFAS approved Fellowship Curriculum.
This fellowship offers a wide range of clinical experience in the area of foot and ankle and lower extremity problems. Fellows rotate through two separate tracks with exposure to six fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeons. The weekly schedules include
clinical time in a private office setting as well as considerable time in the operating room. While the predominant experience is in adult reconstructive problems of the foot and ankle, there is ample opportunity for work in trauma, sports medicine,
and pediatrics.
