Applicant Resources

Thank you for your interest in the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Fellowship Match! Use the resources below to assist you in the Match process. More information is available through SF Match Residency and Fellowship Services (SF Match), the administrator of the Match.

Match Application Process

1. View the Program List to determine the programs that interest you.

2. Register and apply for the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Match on the SF Match website

3. Complete the centralized application, which includes the following components:

  • CAS Application Form (including a personal statement)

  • Curriculum Vitae

  • USMLE Step 1/COMLEX 1 or equivalent

  • "Letter of Good Standing" (i.e., Status Report Form) from your residency director

  • Three letters of reference

4. Select your Distribution List (the programs you want to receive your application).*

5. Review the Code of Conduct (pages 1-2 for Programs; page 3 for Applicants)

* The SF Match registration fee is $100. Additional fees will be charged based on the number of programs selected for distribution of your application. Applications sent directly to fellowship programs will not be accepted.

NEW for 2025: SF Match will allow all fellowship program applicants to "signal" programs that they are very interested in. With the signaling process, applicants will have up to 10 "tokens" to indicate to prospective programs their high interest, along with their standard application and interview process.

AOFAS does not require programs to take into consideration any signals received, and we encourage applicants to apply and interview at any program they are interested in, not just programs they signal.

Research and Observational Positions Outside the Match

Strictly research and/or observational fellowships and clinical fellowships of less than six months in duration are outside of the match and may be arranged at any time directly with a fellowship program. The AOFAS is not involved in facilitating such fellowships.
