J. Kent Ellington, MD, FAAOS, Joins Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation Board of Directors

Rosemont, Ill. (September 26, 2022) – J. Kent Ellington, MD, medical director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina, has been installed as a member-at-large for the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS)® that advances the Society’s mission by funding and promoting education, research, and humanitarian endeavors.

“It is an honor to contribute to the mission of the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation as a member-at-large,” said Dr. Ellington. “I have devoted a lot of time to my research, product development, and teaching residents and fellows over the years, and now I look forward to advancing global education, research, and humanitarian efforts of the Foundation.”

Dr. Ellington earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina and completed his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, followed by a fellowship at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. He is currently medical director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina, an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biology at University of North Carolina Charlotte, and an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at Atrium Health.

Prior to joining the Foundation Board of Directors, Dr. Ellington was actively involved in the Society as a co-chair of the 2021 AOFAS Pre-Meeting Course and member of the AOFAS Education and Program Committees. In addition, Dr. Ellington is a reviewer for Foot & Ankle International (FAI) and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS), and served on the FAI CME Committee.

In addition to earning numerous honors and awards throughout his career, Dr. Ellington holds several patents and has been involved in entrepreneurial medical-technology development and successful start-up ventures. He also serves on the boards of several companies and charity organizations and holds multiple ratings as a pilot.

About Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeons

Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons are medical doctors (MD and DO) who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries of the foot and ankle. Their education and training consist of four years of medical school, five years of postgraduate residency, and a fellowship year of specialized surgical training. These specialists care for patients of all ages, performing reconstructive surgery for deformities and arthritis, treating sports injuries, and managing foot and ankle trauma.
