Rosemont, Ill. (August 7, 2018) – Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon A. Holly Johnson, MD, has joined the Board of Directors as a member-at-large of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society® (AOFAS), the leading organization for lower extremity medicine and foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Johnson most recently served two years on the Board of Directors for the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AOFAS that advances the Society’s mission by funding and promoting education, research, and humanitarian endeavors.
"I am humbled and excited to join the AOFAS Board of Directors as a member-at-large. Transitioning from the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation to another leadership position gives me an additional opportunity to offer my service to the Society in a new role,” Dr. Johnson said. “I am eager to continue to engage in important matters such as Society diversity, international membership, and new programs, and to tackle any new initiatives to strengthen the AOFAS."
Dr. Johnson is an orthopaedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery and assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery and a foot and ankle fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
In addition to her work on the Foundation Board of Directors, Dr. Johnson was actively involved in the AOFAS Brand Task Force that led the development of the Society’s new visual identity. She also played a vital role in introducing the Women’s Leadership Inititiave that was created in 2017 to recognize women leaders in foot and ankle orthopaedics.
In 2010 and 2016, Dr. Johnson participated in the Overseas Outreach Project to Vietnam. Dr. Johnson and other AOFAS volunteer surgeons visited underserved areas of Vietnam to provide evaluations and corrective surgery for patients with lower extremity deformities and disabilities.
