A Message from AOFAS President William C. McGarvey, MD
In light of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Texas and tightening of travel restrictions in the US and abroad, the Board of Directors has determined that we are unable to proceed with an in-person AOFAS Annual Meeting. As physicians
we strive to make evidence-based decisions, and the evidence has made it clear that it is not safe or practical to gather this year.
We had hoped that an in-person Annual Meeting would be a much-needed "reset" after several difficult months — an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and friends, share challenges, and prepare for the future. Based on feedback from faculty,
our May survey to members and past meeting attendees, and conversations with exhibitors, it seemed many of you hoped for that as well. But the health and safety of our attendees, guests, exhibitors, and staff must come first.
On behalf of the Board, I invite you to join us for AOFAS at Home, an interactive virtual program to be held September 10-12, 2020. Program Chair Scott J. Ellis, MD, has done an outstanding job adapting our educational program to a virtual
format. The program incorporates live and recorded presentations, expert symposia, keynotes, Q&A sessions, ePosters, and connections with exhibitors. We are excited to share with you new opportunities to engage with your colleagues and explore
new products and services.
If you already registered for Annual Meeting 2020, you will receive a full refund for registration fees and any purchased Celebrate San Antonio tickets. You are responsible for canceling your own travel arrangements (flight, hotel, etc.).
I would like to extend my appreciation to Dr. Ellis, Pre-meeting Chair A. Holly Johnson, MD, our meeting faculty, and our industry partners for their enthusiasm and loyalty during this time. I sincerely hope you will join us for what is sure to be an
engaging and memorable meeting.
