Jonathon D. Backus, MD, Joins AOFAS® Board of Directors

Washington University Orthopaedic Surgeon to Serve Leading Foot and Ankle Society

Rosemont, Ill. (October 15, 2021) - Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon Jonathon D. Backus, MD, has joined the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society® (AOFAS), the leading organization for lower extremity medicine and foot and ankle surgery, as a member-at-large. “The AOFAS has been a grounding force in my development as a surgeon and I am honored to be joining the Board of Directors,” said Dr. Backus. “I look forward to serving our community and working collaboratively to shape the future of innovation, excellence, and diversity in foot and ankle care.”

Dr. Backus currently serves as assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, foot and ankle division, at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in North Carolina and completed his orthopaedic residency at Washington University School of Medicine. Following his residency, he completed a foot and ankle fellowship at The Steadman Clinic in Colorado.

Prior to his election to the Board of Directors, Dr. Backus was a member of the AOFAS Young Physicians Committee and Evidence Based Medicine Committee, as well as a reviewer for Foot & Ankle International and Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics, the official journals of AOFAS. In addition, he currently serves as a member of the Education Committee.

Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons are medical doctors (MD and DO) who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries of the foot and ankle.
