Women's Leadership Awards Nominations


Nominations for the 2019 Women's Leadership Awards are now closed. Award recipients will be announced in June.

The Women’s Leadership Awards recognize current and future female leaders in foot and ankle orthopaedic surgery. The awards are presented annually to one woman in the US or Canada and one woman outside the US/Canada who demonstrate leadership in orthopaedics as well as research, humanitarian efforts, education, business, and/or philanthropy.



Each award winner will serve as a scientific program presenter at AOFAS Annual Meeting 2019 in Chicago. Complimentary meeting registration and a gala ticket are included. The winners will also speak during the Women’s Leadership Reception.

The winner from the US/Canada receives a $4,000 (USD) stipend and the International winner receives a $5,000 (USD) stipend to cover travel expenses to attend the AOFAS Annual Meeting.

An individual may apply herself OR be nominated by an AOFAS member in good standing.


  • Female Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon actively practicing with 75% of practice dedicated to foot and ankle

  • US or Canadian dues-paying AOFAS Active Member or AOFAS International Member in good standing. International nominees should live in a country with at least five AOFAS members

  • Demonstrated leadership within AOFAS or other society, orthopaedics, academia, or in the community

  • The Award winner must commit to attend AOFAS Annual Meeting 2019 and the Women’s Leadership Reception

Nomination Process

  • If self-nominating: Submit a cover letter outlining why you should be considered for the award and include the name and contact email of an AOFAS member who will submit a separate letter of support. Include your CV with the letter.

  • If nominating an individual: AOFAS members may submit a letter of support outlining why the nominee should be considered for the award. Include the nominee’s CV with the letter.

  • Submit all application documents to by Monday, May 20, 2019. Winners will be contacted via email by the end of May.
