Important message from William C. McGarvey, MD, AOFAS President
The AOFAS Board of Directors has made the determination to cancel 2020 Specialty Day along with all AOFAS-sponsored events to be held the week of March 24-28 in Orlando. The decision was based on the increasing number of travel restrictions and advisories which have dramatically impacted presenter and attendee participation along with consideration of the risk of exposure from joining a large gathering and then returning to practice and facing possible quarantine. We share the concern with many of you that the health and safety of all healthcare providers, our patients and our staff members is our primary consideration.
We are very grateful to all the presenters who worked to prepare their talks for the upcoming meeting along with all the volunteers who participate in committees.
Specialty Day programming elements will be available via an on-demand platform in the future. Committee meetings will be rescheduled and held remotely. More information will be sent to registered attendees as well as AOFAS members in the next few weeks. Full refunds for Specialty Day registration fees will be processed by AOFAS. Instructions to submit refund requests will be emailed out within one week to registered attendees. Note that cancelling attendance at AAOS does not cancel AOFAS participation; every attendee will need to communicate directly with AOFAS to arrange for refund payment. AOFAS also cannot speak to the status of any other events scheduled in Orlando during the AAOS meeting. AAOS updates may be found at https://www.aaos.org/annual/.
AOFAS Active members will receive separate communication regarding the Nominating Committee and business meeting. Committee members will be contacted by their staff liaisons to reschedule their meetings in a timely manner.
Those impacted by COVID-19 are in our thoughts and prayers. We look forward to seeing everyone at the AOFAS Annual Meeting September 9-12, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas.
