Annual Application Deadline:  December 1 to Volunteer for Future Projects

Application form

The 2015 Vietnam Project was May 24 - June 19. The AOFAS volunteers worked side by side with local orthopaedic surgeons in the clinics and operating rooms in the northern provinces of Vietnam and in the large teaching hospital in Hanoi. During this year's project 247 patients were seen in the clinics and 76 patients with foot and ankle deformities received from life-changing surgery without charge. AOFAS also co-sponsored its annual educational conference in Hanoi with 118 Vietnamese orthopaedic surgeons in attendance.

This year's volunteers were: Mario Adames, MD; D. Scott Biggerstaff, MD; Thomas Hearty, MD; Naren Gurbani, MD; L. Daniel Latt, MD, PhD; Angus McBryde, MD; Victor Macko, MD; Peter Salamon, MD; Naomi Shields, MD. Ask them about their experiences! They would love to discuss volunteering with you.

Step up to a challenging experience!

You have heard of interesting vacations in Europe, boat cruises through Alaskan waters, mountain climbing, and kayaking in scenic placVietnam logo no yr.jpges, however, the AOFAS has an even better adventure in mind for its members. It offers beautiful scenery, foreign language and unusual foods, and involves stepping out of your comfort zone -- both clinically and personally. It also affords the opportunity to do something truly special for others and return home with memories that will last a lifetime. Consider volunteering!

Surgeons spend one or two weeks working side-by-side with Vietnamese orthopaedic surgeons -- teaching, seeing patients in the clinics, and performing surgery. AOFAS volunteers present at the AOFAS-sponsored annual orthopaedic educational conference in Hanoi and at provincial hospitals. The annual project, scheduled over a four week period in May -- June, provides surgical care and education in provinces in northern Vietnam and in Hanoi.

The project is open to Active Members, Candidate Members, and International Members. Surgeons volunteer time and pay for their own travel to Vietnam. In-country expenses for food, lodging, travel, and logistics support for the project are covered by a grant to AOFAS from the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundationthe charitable arm of the AOFAS.
