New York Orthopaedic Surgeon takes on Leadership Role at National Medical Society
ROSEMONT, IL July 25, 2011 – New York orthopaedic surgeon, Jonathan T. Deland, MD was elected Member-at-Large to the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) during the Society’s 27th Annual Meeting in Keystone, Colorado on July 15.

"My desire is to serve the Society that has given much to me. I look forward to contributing to the AOFAS as it continues to be the leader in foot and ankle education." said Dr. Deland.

Dr. Deland is Chief, Foot & Ankle Service and Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and Associate Professor of Surgery (Orthopaedics) at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York and completed his orthopaedic residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, Children's Hospital Medical Center, Beth Israel Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Deland completed four fellowships including, foot & ankle surgery at St. Luke's – Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, sports medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, AO Fellowships in  Berne, Switzerland and Seattle, as well as a fellowship in biomechanics at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Deland is currently Editor-In-Chief, Foot & Ankle Section of Orthopaedia, reviewer for Foot & Ankle International and faculty at Hospital for Special Surgery Foot & Ankle Fellowship program. He served as a presenter at the AOFAS Annual Meeting.
