President

Judith F. Baumhauer, MD, Rochester, New York, serves as Associate Chair of Academic Affairs and Professor, Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery, Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Rochester.
 
A graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science degree, she then attained a Masters of Science in Biology from Middlebury College. Dr. Baumhauer earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She completed orthopaedic residency at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont and a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. While working as an Attending at the University of Rochester, she obtained a Masters in Public Health from the UR Department of Community and Preventive Medicine.
 
Dr. Baumhauer serves on Board of Directors of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is Immediate Past President of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association. She is past treasurer of the International Federation of Foot & Ankle Societies. A member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Baumhauer chaired the AAOS/AOFAS Complete Foot and Ankle Course in 2005. She has served as chair of the Traveling Fellowship Awards Committee and the Research Committee of the AOFAS.Dr. Baumhauer is a reviewer for Foot & Ankle International and the American Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
 

President-Elect

Lew C. Schon, MD, Baltimore, Maryland, is Director of Foot & Ankle Services and Director of the Foot and Ankle Fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He is Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University and Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
 
Dr. Schon attended Union College and received his medical degree from Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. Following internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, he completed orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, also in New York City. Dr.. Schon was an AO Scholar in Foot & Ankle Surgery with Sigvard Hansen, MD in Seattle, Washington and completed a foot and ankle fellowship in Houston, Texas with Donald Baxter, MD and Thomas Clanton, MD. Dr. Schon is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
 
 
Dr. Schon’s involvement and service to AOFAS includes the Post-Graduate Testing Committee, Sports Medicine Committee, Fellowship Training Committee, and the Membership Committee. He is a frequent presenter at AOFAS educational programs and has served as a faculty member for many AOFAS courses, Specialty Day programs and Annual Summer Meetings. Dr. Schon has co-chaired the AAOS Foot & Ankle Orthopaedic Learning Center Course and was a member of the AAOS Program Committee.  He is a member of the Corporate Relations Committee for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. Dr. Schon is the author of numerous articles published in Foot & Ankle International and other orthopaedic journals. He was an assistant editor for Foot & Ankle International and a reviewer for JBJS(am)
 

Vice President

Steven L. Haddad, MD, Glenview, IL is Chief, Section of Foot and Ankle Surgery, NorthShore University Healthcare System, Evanston, IL. He is Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL.
 
A junior Phi Beta Kappa graduate at the University of Michigan, Dr. Haddad received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1989. He did his internship and completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC. Dr. Haddad performed a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Dr. Haddad is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and recertified in 2008.
 
Dr. Haddad has served on the faculty of many AOFAS educational courses, including chairing Surgical Complications of the Foot & Ankle Course. He previously chaired the AOFAS Education Committee and has served as program chair for the Specialty Day Program and the Annual Summer Meeting. He also chaired the Young Physicians Section of the AOFAS, and served as its delegate to the American Medical Association. Previous service also includes a term as a Member-at-Large on the Board of Directors.

Dr. Haddad is an assistant editor for the Clinical Tips and Surgical Techniques section of the journal Foot & Ankle International, and a reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. He previously chaired the Occupational Health Committee, and served as editor for the Society’s Workers’ Compensation Manual.

Treasurer

Bruce J. Sangeorzan, MD, Seattle, Washington, is Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington and Chief, Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Harborview Medical Center.  He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University and fellowship in trauma and adult foot reconstruction at the University of Washington, Seattle.
 
Prior to his election as Treasurer, Dr. Sangeorzan served as Member-at-Large on the AOFAS Board of Directors.  He was co-chair of the 2010 Advanced Foot & Ankle Course, and faculty for Specialty Day Programs and Annual Summer Meetings.  He is a member of the Education Committee, sits on the Foot & Ankle International (FAI) Managerial Board, and is past chair of Clinical Outcomes Committee and Program Committee.   He continues to serve as faculty for numerous AOFAS courses as well as Annual Summer Meetings and Specialty Day programs.  Dr. Sangeorzan is the recipient of the prestigious Roger Mann Award.
 
Active in several professional societies, Dr. Sangeorzan serves in various leadership roles within the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), American Academy of Orthpaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA).  He served as associate editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, editorial board of the Journal of Rehabilitation Research & Development, and reviewer for Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, Journal of Orthoapedic Trauma, Journal of Orthopaedic Research, and Journal of Biomechanics.  Dr. Sangeorzan is the recipient of many research grants and author of numerous articles, and serves frequently as course faculty and invited lecturer.
 

Immediate Past-President

Keith L. Wapner, MD, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and is affiliated with Clinical Care Associates of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
 
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Wapner completed medical school at Temple University. He completed orthopaedic residency training at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a joint fellowship with Thomas Mallory, MD, and then a foot and ankle fellowship with Roger Mann, MD. Dr. Wapner is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
 
Dr. Wapner has served the AOFAS as Program Chair for the Specialty Day Program and the Annual Summer Meeting, co-chaired the Advanced Foot & Ankle Course, and chaired the Residency Review Course. He has also chaired the Fellowship Training Committee and served on the Coding Committee, Education Committee, and the Industry Relations Committee. He is director of the Foot & Ankle Fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital/University of Pennsylvania Health System. In addition to his service to AOFAS, Dr. Wapner has also chaired courses for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and serves as a board examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
 
Dr. Wapner is a reviewer for Foot & Ankle International, is on the editorial board for Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, and serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
 

Past President

Charles L. Saltzman, MD, Salt Lake City, Utah is Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Utah. A graduate of Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Saltzman received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He did his internship and completed orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Michigan. Dr. Saltzman completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale with Kenneth A. Johnson, MD. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
 
Dr. Saltzman spent 14 years at the University of Iowa where he was Professor in three departments (Orthopaedic Surgery, Bioengineering, and Physical Rehabilitation). Dr. Saltzman has served on the faculty for many AOFAS education courses and programs and has served in many professional associations. He is the current treasurer of the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons. He has been a principal investigator on major OREF, NIH and DoD grants.
 
Dr. Saltzman serves as a reviewer on several other journals, including the Journal of Biomechanics, Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Spine, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research and the Journal of Orthopaedic Research. He is chair of the Managerial Board for Foot & Ankle International.
 

Member-at-Large

Ian J. Alexander, MD is Clinical Professor and Vice Chair, Chief, Division of Foot & Ankle, Ohio State University Medical Center, Department of Orthopaedics.  He earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada.  He completed a fellowship in foot and ankle at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
 
Dr. Alexander is currently a reviewer for the scientific journal, Foot & Ankle International (FAI).  He served as program faculty for the AOFAS Annual Summer Meeting; chair, Complete Foot Course; program chair, Specialty Day and the Annual Summer Meeting.  In addition, he has been a member of the Research Committee, Education Committee, AOFAS/POSNA Committee on Terminology and representative to AAOS MODEMs Committee.  Dr. Alexander served as associate editor of Foot & Ankle international (FAI), and Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS).

Michael S. Aronow, MD is Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Connecticut School of Medicine.  He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.  Dr. Aronow has completed three fellowships including foot and ankle surgery at the Unviersity of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, sports medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, and orthopaedic research at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
 
Dr. Aronow holds numerous leadership positions within AOFAS including: past chair of the Fellowship Match Committee, past chair of the Post-Graduate Education & Training Committee, and AOFAS representative to the AAOS BOS Match Oversight Committee, which he co-chairs.  Active at the state level, Dr. Aronow is a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society and a member of the Connecticut State Medical Society.
