2014-2017 President

Opening the 6th Triennial Scientific Meeting, Dr. Saltzman
expressed
appreciation and congratulations to Professor Martinus Richter, IFFAS vice president and program chair of the meeting.

He also thanked IFFAS Council representatives, the Scientific Committee and Symposia Committee for their contributions to the success of the meeting, and appreciation to the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) for hosting the meeting.

"Interest in IFFAS meetings is growing as our specialty evolves and clinical and research information expands enabling us to improve care for our patients. For some, this is a first IFFAS meeting, while others have attended a previous meeting, or perhaps even all of the past triennial meetings since the federation's founding in 1999."

"Our meeting includes leaders of many national foot and ankle societies from around the world and representatives of 63 countries. The IFFAS provides a specialty opportunity for us to learn from each other and increase understanding of foot and ankle, as well as gain an appreciation and understanding of other cultures. It has been an honor to serve as president of IFFAS."

Letter from the President

_P5A4605.JPGOur IFFAS meeting, held as the "World Congress Foot and Ankle 2017," has come to a close. It is now my pleasure and honor to serve as IFFAS president .I am pleased to report that the IFFAS Council has elected Dr. Cristian Ortiz (Chile) as vice president/program chair for the 2020 meeting in Chile. Dr. Bruce Sangeorzan (USA) will continue as treasurer, and Dr. Jin Woo Lee (South Korea) was elected as secretary.

The IFFAS Council is considering how to make our federation more inclusive for foot and ankle surgeons who do not have a national or continental foot and ankle society, and this will require amending our Constitution and Bylaws at the next Council meeting. Currently, our website has been updated and will be further developed, and our secretariat will be put on a stable contractural basis.

Other suggestions to increase the value of IFFAS are welcome. Would it be useful to start projects based on the existing efforts of member societies, such as publications (journal, book, web-based formats), meetings, or relationships with industry partners (foundation)? Your input is welcome as the IFFAS Council considers how to move forward, and I would encourage you to provide your ideas. Above, all, we should always keep in mind that our primary goal, as a federation of societies, is education in order to improve care for patients with foot and ankle disorders.
