Welcome to IFFAS Online, a service of the International Federation of Foot & Ankle Societies. The IFFAS is an organization that grew out of increased collaboration among international orthopaedic foot and ankle societies around the world. It is a fedearation of regional federations of foot and ankle organizations, whose members are orthopaedic surgeons specializing in medical and surgical care of the foot and ankle.


Organizational Aims 

Excluding any social, political, religious or racial segregation, the organization aims to:
  • Initiate, promote and develop international scientific relations between students of the foot.
  • Develop and spread knowledge about all aspects of anatomy, physiology and pathology of the foot.
  • Represent this branch of the medical science and profession on an international scale.

History

1999 - The Federation held its founding meeting in October 1999 in Kyoto, Japan, at the triennial meeting of the College International de Medecine et Chirurgie du Pied, an international foot and ankle society founded in 1958.
 
2002 - The 1st IFFAS Triennial Scientific Meeting was held in 2002 in San Francisco, California, USA, hosted by the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society.
 
2005 - The European Foot and Ankle Society hosted the 2nd Triennial Scientific Meeting in 2005 in Naples, Italy. 
 
2008 - The 3rd Triennial Scientific Meeting was held in Costa do Sauipe, Bahia, Brazil, hosted by the Latin American Federation of Medicine and Surgery of the Foot and Leg
 
2011 - Plans to hold the 4th Triennial Scientific Meeting in 2011 in Nara, Japan, hosted by the Asian Federation for Foot and Ankle Surgeons were unfortunately cancelled due to the series of devastating events that struck Japan that year.
 

Organization

Organized on a regional rather than national basis, the IFFAS consists of four regional organizations:

Council

The IFFAS is governed by a council of representatives of the four federations.
 
The IFFAS Secretariat is located in Rosemont, Illinois USA.

The 5th Triennial IFFAS Scientific Meeting will be held September 19-21, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois USA at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The hotel is ideally located in downtown Chicago, convenient to cultural activities, restaurants, shopping and all that this world-class city has to offer.
 
The scientific program will be organized by IFFAS Vice President Charles Saltzman, MD.
 
The Annual Meeting of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society will be held September 21-23, 2014 in conjunction with the IFFAS meeting.
